Countless Christians, Yezidis, and even Sunni Muslims have fallen to the gruesome slaughter of the Islamic State in Iraq, Syria, and Iran. ISIS continues to run amok across the Middle East, beheading children, crucifying men, and selling non-Muslim women as sex slaves, all while Obama ignores the genocide and refuses to address eliminate the growing threat against the U.S.
Fed up with the slaughter and desperate for relief, thousands of Assyrian Christian men have united to form a militia to protect the innocent in Iraq:
There are thousands of young Assyrian Christian men that have volunteered to join the protection units we’re planning on establishing in the coming weeks and months… Situations like this need political consensus before anything takes place on the ground. While there are hundreds of individuals that are armed with small weapons at this time, the bulk of the force is yet to be organized. Most of our areas in the Nineveh Plain are still under ISIS control and it doesn’t look like the Kurdish militias will be able to remove them without help from the International community.
There is also another Christian militia called the Syriac Military Council, which consists of Chaldean and Assyrian Christians, and stands with the Peshmerga forces.
At first, Christians were hesitant to perpetrate violence against the vicious Islamists, but needless butchery forced the peaceful civilians to act. One Christian militant explained how the churches sold their cloaks to buy swords:
“We keep talking about Jesus and peace, and now we’ve reached the point where it’s not enough… The age of waiting for the Peshmerga to take back territory while we sit is over. We took the decision that, with our limited abilities, we will try to participate… We’re being killed in our homes, so why not defend ourselves? Then even if we die, we die with dignity… We didn’t want to reach this point – we just want to live in our areas.“We’re being killed in our homes, so why not defend ourselves? Then even if we die, we die with dignity,” he said. “We didn’t want to reach this point – we just want to live in our areas.”
Perhaps these peaceful Christians remembered Proverbs, which commands, “Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter.” Christians must arm themselves, or cleansing could wipe out the followers of Christ in the Middle East, where they’ve lived for well over 2,000 years.
Christians, however, make up less than 1 percent of Iraq’s population, an easy target for jihadists.
After reclaiming areas once captured by IS, Christians have made it clear that they hope the Peshmerga will allow them to once again govern themselves. And why not? If the Obama Administration can support a “Palestinian State” in Gaza, why can’t Christians have their own territory free from Sharia law?
