A 27-year-old Nigerian student studying in Ghana, Nazifi Osman Muhammed, has been stabbed to death by armed robbers at his Accra New Town residence.
Muhammed was reportedly stabbed in the stomach and chest.
Ghanaian news website, Daily Guide reports that two other students, Jamiru Osman, 23, and Mustapha Musa, 22 were injured in the Sunday morning attack.
Osman and Musa are reportedly on admission at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
All three victims are said to be students of Sikkim Manipul University, Circle, Accra, studying Information Communication Technology (ICT).
Daily Guide reports that the robbers might have targeted the students after learning that they received $4000 dollars from their relative in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, a suspect believed to be one of the attackers was arrested by residents of the area, but the police is yet unsure of his complicity.
Confirming the suspect's arrest, the Kotobabi District Police Commander, DSP Elizabeth Tiekuwaa Dankwa, told Daily Guide, that the suspect would be interrogated.
“Suspect was apprehended hours after the robbery attack by residents when he was passing in front of the house, on suspicion that he might be one of the suspects, but it is the duty of the police to confirm that through investigations," Dankwa said.
“We are keeping him in our custody to assist us in our investigations."
One of the victims, who was only stabbed in the hands told police that the robbers attacked them with a kitchen knife around 3:30 am.
“Complainant said they were all rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment by neighbours but Nazifi was pronounced dead by doctors on arrival at the health facility while Jamiru, who was unconscious, was admitted,” the police chief reportedly said.
Muhammed's body has been deposited at the Korle-Bu Teaching hospital.
It will be recalled that Mr. Godwin Ayogu, a 19-year-old Nigerian studying at the University of Cape Coast, was murdered at the University of Cape Coast in Ghana.
